Disc golf is played similarly to traditional golf. In disc golf, discs are thrown towards baskets from various distances. The disc golf course has a starting point and a basket, and the course can feature various obstacles. The goal is to hit the baskets with the fewest throws, following the same rules as traditional golf. However, the primary aim is to have fun and get some exercise. Disc golf can be played with others or individually.
Everyone Can Play
What sets disc golf apart from other sports is that everyone can play, regardless of age, gender, or physical strength. The only requirement is the technique—the ability to throw a disc—and this is something everyone can learn.
To make it easier for everyone to play disc golf in Vágur, discs can be borrowed for free from Magnus Paula West. A deposit of 300 DKK is required when borrowing the discs, which will be returned when the discs are returned.
You can read more about disc golf and how to borrow discs on the website rams.fo. Information about Disc Golf Vágur and the layout of the disc golf area can be found at rams.fo/discgolfvagur.
Other Associations
Below is an overview of other associations in the municipality that do not fall under sports and activities.
For over a hundred years, recreational activities for children have been organized in the Perish house in Vágur. In the early years, there were two groups, one for girls and one for boys. While the boys' group eventually ceased, the girls' group, called Dagsglæman, has continued throughout the years and still exists today. However, boys are also welcome to participate if they are interested.
Women from the village run the activities. The children engage in embroidery and knitting. Some songs are sung, a devotional and a story are read, and the children enjoy a snack.
Dagsglæman meets in Perish house on Fridays from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
The program starts each year around the end of September/beginning of October and ends in late March. At the end of the season, the crafted items and other donated goods are sold. The proceeds from this sale are donated to causes, particularly those benefiting children. No registration is required, and participation is free of charge.

The dance association Jómsvíkingar was founded on December 21, 1976. In 1986, the club purchased the old workshop of Dion Nólsøe, which was converted into a dance hall named Jómsborg.
Faroese Dance
Jómsvíkingar organizes public Faroese dance events throughout the year, especially in the winter. There are fixed dance nights on the second Christmas evening and during the Midsummer festival (jóansøka) in Vágur. Every year, there is also a barrel-slamming event, a banquet, and Faroese dance during the carnival (føstulávint). Additionally, there are several other dance nights throughout the winter, both in Jómsborg and other places on the island. Everyone is warmly welcome to join the Faroese dance in Jómsborg.
Children's Dance
For many years, Jómsvíkingar has also organized children's dance during the winter. The children dance once a week, learning Faroese dance, ballads, and various dance games. The season starts shortly after the autumn break and continues until the carnival, ending with a barrel-slamming event. There is an annual children's dance festival in different locations in the Faroe Islands, and we always try to participate. In 2016, Jómsvíkingar hosted the festival, held in the VB house with 450 participants. There are also international festivals every four years.
Everyone is welcome to join the children's dance in Jómsborg, and announcements are made on Facebook each winter about the dance schedule.

Anyone can become a member of Dansifelagið Jómsvíkingar by contacting the chairwoman. However, it is not necessary to be a member to participate in Faroese dance. Every other Wednesday evening, women gather for the event "Heimaforbundið" at the Salvation Army in Vágur.
Heimaforbundið, which is part of the international work of the Salvation Army, has a long history and began for the first time in London in 1907. The first Heimaforbundið event at the Salvation Army in Vágur was organized in 1948, a year after the congregation was founded. Heimaforbundið has been held consistently almost every year, with about 10-15 women gathering every other Wednesday evening.
An annual women's conference is organized, either domestically or abroad, and women from Vágur have participated in several conferences.
Heimaforbundið, which is for women, operates under the motto "home for Christ," emphasizing the importance of having a place where women, who play a crucial role in homes, can meet.
The evening typically starts with singing and a devotional, followed by a time of fellowship with a snack, good company, and handicrafts.
Women of all ages are warmly welcome to "Heimaforbundið" at the Salvation Army in Vágur, every other Wednesday from 8:00 PM to 9:30 PM (this second half of 2023, it is held on even weeks).
Every Tuesday, men gather for the event "Orðið á borðið" at the Salvation Army in Vágur.
Orðið á borðið began in 2008 by the then-congregation leader of the Salvation Army, Ben Eli Dam. The idea was to create a place where men could meet for coffee, conversation, singing, and a devotional.
The meeting starts with coffee and breakfast, followed by singing, a story or devotional reading, and a prayer. The event concludes at 11:00 AM.
The event has been well received and has grown steadily over the years, with 30-40 men meeting every Tuesday.
Orðið á borðið as a group has taken several domestic trips around the country and even an international trip to Iceland in 2010.
Since a significant part of the event is singing and music, Orðið á borðið is often invited as a choir to sing at birthdays, concerts, funerals, and other occasions.
Men of all ages are warmly welcome to "Orðið á borðið" at the Salvation Army in Vágur, Tuesdays from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM.
Undirhúsið is open every Wednesday morning at 10:00 and Saturday mornings at 8:30. Since only men attend, the conversations usually revolve around ships, boats, fishing, genealogy, old ships, engines, old captains and seamen, events on land and sea, funny stories, and various current topics in society. However, discussions on religion and politics are kept to a minimum, as these topics can often be contentious.
Undirhúsið has organized many enjoyable excursions around the Faroe Islands, including trips to Viðareiði, Hestur, Sandoy, Svínoy, and other places.
Everyone is welcome at Undirhúsið for rolls and coffee on Saturday mornings from 8:30 and for a fun coffee chat on Wednesday mornings from 10:00.
