Welcome to Vágur
Moving to a new place can be both exciting and challenging. A new culture, a new language and new systems can be difficult to navigate. That is why the municipalities in Suðuroy have appointed a shared Integration Coordinator to help new residents settle in and become active members of the community.
Our goal is to ensure that everyone who moves to Vágur gets a good start. Integration is about much more than finding a job and a place to live. It is also about learning the language, understanding society, building relationships and feeling welcome in the local community.
The Integration Coordinator works to:
- help new residents settle in the Faroe Islands and in Suðuroy
- provide guidance on Faroese systems and public services
- support Faroese language learning and participation in society
- build connections between residents, municipalities, institutions and associations
- promote successful integration across all areas of society
Who can get help?
The Integration Coordinator is available to everyone who has moved to Vágur – both individuals and families.
You can receive guidance on topics such as:
- housing and settling in
- the labour market and employment opportunities
- schools and childcare services
- the Faroese language and language courses
- healthcare services
- leisure activities, associations and social networks
- public services and citizens’ rights
Cooperation between the municipalities
Integration efforts are a joint initiative of the municipalities in Suðuroy. Through a shared Integration Coordinator, the municipalities aim to ensure that new residents receive a warm welcome and equal opportunities, regardless of where they live on the island.
The goal is for Suðuroy to be a place where people feel welcome, have opportunities to grow and can build a good life for themselves and their families.
