Port of Vágur - Your First Port of Call
Port of Vágur has good facilities to welcome cruise ships - with two quaysides, that are 86 meters long and 10 meters deep and 130 meters and 7 meters deep.
Cruise ships dock at heart of Vágur - it's only 400 meters from quay to town center. Vágur depicts the essence of a rural Faroese town. Here, passengers will encounter friendly locals, the rich history, the vibrant culture and vast tourist attractions and services. Touring the town is easy as everything is within walking distance, and the best part is that Vágur is surrounded by breathtakingly beautiful landscape that is accessible by foot.
In 2022, Port of Vágur began entering the cruise industry. However, the port wanted to do it differently than most destinations. Preparations led to the concept where cruise ships pre-purchase exclusive access to tourist attractions and cultural elements in Vágur and where "local" is the keyword. Emphasis is on social and environmental sustainability. The idea is that locals are crucial partners when cruise ships visit - they help organize passengers ashore, where they go, what they get access to and how they experience Vágur.
Vágur is surounded by beautiful nature. For instance, Vágseiði viewpoint, Eggjarnar viewpoint, Rávan mountain top, Botnur valley, Lake Vatnið and more are only a short hike away from the town. Nearby Vágur is also Lopranseiði viewpoint, Akraberg lighthouse, mountains Beinisvørð and Kirvi.
There are also several cultural and tourist attractions in town, like the Ruth Smith Art Museum, Biskupkelda brewery, Church of Vágur, the schooner Johanna TG326 and more.
The tourist information center is located in town center, approx. 350 meters from harbor. Visitors can get relevant information and brochures upon visiting Vágur. The tourist center also halps coordinate a visit, if needed.
