Water Supply and Quality

Vágur Municipality places great emphasis on providing disinfected water to citizens and businesses.

There are two water treatment plants in the municipality (eastern and western). The western treatment plant supplies disinfected water to most households in the municipality. At the treatment plants, the water is first passed through a sand filter and then treated with UV light. There is daily monitoring of the water treatment plants.

To ensure that the water meets established quality standards, water samples are taken in agreement with the Health Protection Agency. These water samples are collected after the water has been disinfected. The samples are sent to the Health Protection Agency, which tests the water for chemical and bacteriological purity.

The results are sent back to the municipality's technical department. The results of the water tests can be viewed here on the website. If the water does not meet the required standards, residents will be informed.
