Waste and Recycling
The environment and its care are very important for the well-being of the citizens. Vágur Municipality places great emphasis on environmental issues, including waste management, organized landfill sites, recycling, and the overall environment of the town.
Landfill Site
The landfill site in Vágur Municipality is located in the industrial area at Oyrar. The landfill site is intended for household waste from the municipality. Household waste is defined as items that are not suitable for disposal in IRF bags.
- Monday, Wednesday, and Friday: 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM
- Saturday: 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM
The landfill site is closed on all public holidays, as well as on Flag Day, May 1st, Constitution Day, and November 1st. Additional closures will be announced by the municipality.
- The landfill site is intended for regular household waste only.
- Businesses, shops, kiosks, institutions, etc., are not permitted to use the landfill site.
- It is not allowed to dispose of large quantities of waste from activities such as house construction or renovation.
- Such large quantities must be taken directly to IRF in Trøllavík.
- Waste may only be disposed of at the landfill site during opening hours.
- It is strictly prohibited to leave waste outside the landfill site.
- It is strictly prohibited to dispose of any waste, such as animal remains and other organic waste, anywhere other than the municipal landfill site.
Violations of these regulations will be punished with a fine.

Recycling
A recycling container has been set up at the landfill site. This container is intended for items that are too good to throw away and that others might enjoy using. Citizens are welcome to take items placed in the container home with them. Items such as things, furniture, and similar items that are considered reusable will be kept in the container for two weeks.
The container is open during the same hours as the landfill site and should be used in consultation with the on-site staff.
Large Quantities of Waste and Commercial Waste
The landfill site in Vágur Municipality does not accept large quantities of waste from households in the municipality. The same applies to commercial waste from businesses in the municipality. In these cases, waste should be taken to the IRF reception and landfill site in Trøllavík. Please refer to the landfill site regulations for more details.

Closed on Saturday and Sunday.
Twice a year, 28 gray bags are distributed. This allows for IRF to collect one gray bag per week, plus each household has two extra bags per half year. If you run out of bags before week 38, it means too many bags have been used.
